I'm seeing 2 types of head gaskets for the 235, one is a fiber-faced gasket, the
other is a copper-faced sandwiched gasket. Is one better than the other, does
any one recommend or prefer one type over the other, or does one know if works better on these older engines?

    Copper-faced sandwiched gasket works fine.

The fit of the copper gasket works better on the cylinder head is my experience. Is your cyl. head polished or maybe grinded ?
