Can anyone tell if i need all the heater hoses under the hood. I put a small block in my truck and would like to clean up under the hood and maybe get rid of two hoses. Can it be done ? And which ones can go ? thanks a lot
Re:Heater Hoses You'll still need all those "extra" hoses if you want your heater control valve to work.
It is hard to clean up the under hood appearance but you can improve it quite a bit at a decent cost or make it super sanitary at a really bite you in the billfold cost. The pricey route is to go out through the inner fender and back in at the kick panel. This makes all the hoses/wires completely hidden but uses two sets of bulkhead fittings, other tight bend hose fittings, and a little kick panel mod by your upholstery guy. Not worth it for anything but a show ride. If you have the V8 you might consider a heat/air unit which has all the controls built in. They make a vacuum actuated heater valve that can be mounted anywhere in the heater hose but I prefer the cable controlled one mentioned by Charles, just be sure to use a cable from a Japanese car since they can be 40 years old and not even drag let alone sieze up. Here is a 1949 AD that's been cleaned up and a Model A that still has hoses but they are braided and with AN fittings. This is about as far as you can go till it starts getting real spendy.
hoses Thanks for the pics and info. So i guess i dont need all those hoses going into the firewall. The two that are by the fender will stay with the valve and the other 2 i guess can go if i am lookin at these pics the right way ...thanks again
Do you remember the price of the control valve? I'm not a cheapskate, just like to know how much to shake out of the piggy bank before I go.
Evan, What kind of heater is it these trucks are using, the way the hoses are kept together is great.
heater hoses CHARLES In the 3rd pic did you just block the hose fittings that are in the middle of the firewall? Are all of the heater hose connections joined under the dash? What you did looks good i just dont want 4 hoses coming out of the firewall ......thanks
