timming mark

    I took the dizzy out to paint the engine yesterday was going through the timming stuff tdc points gap as soon as i got the bb to line up with the pointer she died should i pull the dizzy and turn it 180????

    It's not out 180 or it never would have started. With the pointer on the bb pop off the cap and see where the rotor is aimed. It will probably be out of line with the #1 plug terminal which means the distributor gear is off one notch. Easy to do, in fact it's hard to get the gears to mesh exactly as they were. They usually want to drop back in one notch advanced.

    off by one

    Thanks Evan it sounds like the owner off by one gear.
    I was also thinking about just timming by ear due to older parts and stuff.
