Hello all. I was trying to pull the drums on my 3/4T GMC yesterday and ran in to a little confusion. The maintenance manual says you can pull the drums without pulling the hubs by removing the retainer screws. I assume the 4 holes in the front of the drums between the lugs would be for accessing the retainer screws but I could not get a screwdriver to seat in anything inside. The drums will not come off. Any ideas?

Question #2: I am going to be picking up my "new" engine next week if all goes as planned and I wanted to know what modifications are needed to install the Chevy engine in my GMC. I remember seeing somewhere that the mounts will be different but can't find it. Thanks for all of your advice as always.

As I recall, the retainer screws are through the face of the drum and can be a beeeeotch when frozen. I don't believe many made it back in the drum, as the wheel holds everything together. You may need to soak the studs in oil and give many light taps of the attitude adjuster to vibrate them loose.

    Bent screwdriver

I do agree that they are a BEEEEOTCH! I bent one screwdriver already. I do believe I need a bigger "attitude adjuster"! Thanks!

I too had this problem. Go get your one of those screw drivers that you hit with a hammer and it rotates the screw. Life saver. I can't think of what its called, but you literally hit it with a hammer and it will either loosen or tighten a screw. It rotates the screw and the hammer hit pushes the head in so they won't slip out. Also PB blaster. Best stuff I have found.

    Good luck;)
