O.K. , I've been out looking and have found a few shortbed Chevy's with thinwall L6 engines and slush box trannies , one even has power steering .

I'm not letting go of my '49 just yet as who knows , my son may decide he wants it .

I'm looking at ball joint suspension pickups , right now a nice '64 C-10 with Slip 'N Slide Powerglide & a 230 , the other is a '70 C-10 with a Turbo Hydro , a better truck but way out of my leauge price wise , maybe I can borrow some $ .

I'd planned to buy a '73 ~ '86 but there ARE NONE with L6 engines I can find...

O.K. , one in Tenn. that looks nice & is cheap to boot but it's sold already I think :( .

    Dang spell checker isn't working , sorry :( .

Nate, do we get to vote on this? If so, my vote goes to the '64! What a classic body style! My granddad had a short wheelbase fleetside, blue w/ white top and trim that was awesome. His was a 6 banger with 3 on the tree! What a dream to drive at age 13! I hauled a lot of stuff in the summer of '67 to his farm in that truck. My favorite load was 3 "freshly cut" pigs, ringed and all to their new temporary home, us waiting for the first frost in November! Nothing better than fresh cracklins on a cold November day in Tennessee!

    Yeah well ;

I kinda avoided going by that one and they decided to keep it and had it re sprayed so it'll now forever be out of my gra$p....:(

    '64 C10 & Pig Farming

I don't really cotton to this body style and I don't want to buy another & wind up loosing my a$$ just to dump it later on .

    We had a '63 & a '64 K10 on the farm back in New Hampshire , they both had 230 CID thinwall L6's .

For those who are not Farmers here , " freshly cut & ringed " piglets means a rude thing to to sterilize them using tiny rubber bands..... Ow........ :D

    Yep ;

You may recall that was one of the three main points in my search.....

    Sadly , I am no longer a young man :( .

This one being a Turbo Hydro three speed , makes it better for my uses than the average two speed Slip 'N Slide Powerglide .

No regrets , no whining and no worries ! :D I'm still out there doing what I love best , driving and working on and with , Generous Motors Corporation Trucks !

Yes , that's it ~ it looked too nice so I asked him some detail questions & he was honest and sent me the rust hole pix , that's when I asked you Russ . like I said , I can't afford to repair the rust , I'll prolly seal it with fish oil paint & drive it as is .

I think it looks good too and most of the bottom has only minor surface rust , not holes .

The engine was rebuilt a few years back , new pistons fitted so I hope it'll be O.K. , he didn't know what oversize they bored it to .

Brakes not long ago too .

Now I need to find the correct skinny wheels and dog dish hub caps for it , those goofy rims will go to the curb on trash day , my nice scrap metal neighbors LOVE the good used ' scrap metal ' I put out , they can usually use or sell it for value , last ditch is scrap value for them .

Maybe I'll find some 16" wheels for it :) .

Good luck on Unk's new Brand 'F' , Lord knopws there's lots of nice ones out there on Flea-Bay I was worried I'd have to buy a '60 ~ '61 Unibody F-100 to find an L6 Slushbox Shortbed  .

    Jus' kiddin' :p .

    ' A Good Find '

    Lord I hope so ! .

Over the years , I've had over a hundred pickup trucks , most were just fine but for some reason or another , I became disenchanted & sold them , usually at a profit but not always because I never really stop tinkering on them so they're pretty sweet by the time I cast 'em off .

Thanx Charles , I still have loose cactus' on my porch....

You may be able to clean the rust from the cowl, then cover with metal tape from the bottom and seal from the top with fiberglass mat.

    Rust Repairs

Sounds like a plan ! THANK YOU for your advice Russ .

Can't I just drive it to you for a general going over & re spray ? . this rig is ripe for a major overhaul but keeping it bone stock .

I don't expect I'll be seeing many of these anywhere .

    HMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...............................

The pavement glides under the wheels like nothing , air is fresh , temps in the
90's & of course the thinwall L6 250CID engine just purrs right along .

I'm glad I waited for a Turbo Hydromatic equipped truck as a Powerglide would
have worked the engine far to hard & not allowed me to zizz along @ 65 MPH
without beating up the engine from over revving .

This nice old truck is no spring chicken but it's nice to drive in .

Mostly it suffers from deferred maintenance and from idiots who were either lazy or stupid as they didn't do obvious things necessary nor did they do all the works they were paid to do~ example : carby choked full of crud & began stalling out so they installed a rebuilt one but didn't bother replacing the 10 year old clear plastic fuel filter that was obviously full of dirt & crud plus the short hose bits connecting it were old & cracked , just waiting to fail .

Nor did they replace the air filter element , it too is years & years old and soacked in oil and full of dirt .

Spare tire was old but brand new , no air in it atall & all four tires on the
ground were carefully underinflated to the *precise* too low pressure .

Lotsa silly things like this I've been addressing as we go along .

Thank goodness for Pick N' Save , I bought a full set of tools for under $40 so
I hope we're ready for bear should the worst happen .

So far I've not found the jack , just it's handle so if we find any junkyards to
stop into , I'll grab an original jack .

We're having a good time , or at least I am not sure about big brother but he
    says he is .

Update : I wrote this yesterday and emptied out the truck to - day , NO DAMN JACK and the seller said there was one...
