Rained pretty much all weekend in Houston, so I spent most of it working on my replacement hood emblem and grille.
That really sets that front end off. The truck was already a great looking truck and now it looks better. Good Job Bill. Charles
Bill, That Looks Great!!! Very Nice! just wondering, in the picture, is their two holes for license plate at the bottom of your bumper or is that Just a Reflection from the street? Just wondering,if it is, Is that the stock location for GMC for your Truck and Is their a Different Bracket Than That Of a Chevy? Again, Your Truck looks Great! Nice Job Bill.. Allen
Yes, those two holes are used in mounting the bracket for the front license plate. The holes and the bracket were on the truck when I bought it in 1990. I assume they came with the truck, but cannot vouch for their originality. I don't know if GMC and Chevy use the same part. I'll look up the part number for the GMC in my Master Parts Book tonight at home and see if the Chevy Assembly manual has a part number for the front bracket. I left the front plate off when I painted the truck in 1998 and have yet to be harrassed about it being missing by the local Gestapo.
Allen: My 55-59 Chevrolet Truck Assembly Manual shows front license plate bracket for 3000 series as a part that attaches to some cross piece behind the bumper and sticks up between the back of the bumper and the grille, not to the front of the bumper like the GMC part does. Chevrolet part is 3719567, GMC part is 2332537.
Bill, I Know 55-6 Chevy had The Bracket Like You say (Not Sure About 57) But I Do Know 58-9 Were Mounted In The Center,BUT The Holes are Drilled In the Center On My 58&59 Right In the Center of The Bumper But not Down Below The Crease Or Line That Runs Horizontally,Making Me Think That GMC had a Different License Plate bracket That maybe Made The Plate hang Lower Than That of The Chevy's (Interesting!) Thanks Bill. Allen
Thanks. Been driving without the front plate since I switched to YOM plates in 1991. I have the 2nd plate hanging on the wall in the garage. My plan is to plead "I'm restoring it and when I get done I'll put it back on" if the local Gestapo ever give me grief about it. The nearest I ever came was eating lunch one day in a pizza joint. Two local Sheriff's deputies a few tables away. They got up to leave before me and I noticed them outside eyeballing my truck. One walked around the front, did a double take of the missing plate and said something to his partner. The partner waived him off, they got in their cars and left.
License plates Great looking truck, you do good work. Here in Florida we only use one license plate and it goes on the rear. Vehicles 30 years old and older may use a regular tag or a blue antique tag. I do not know why Florida uses only one tag, most likely to save money. I am glad we don't have to worry about a front license plate holder. keep on truckin' Gerald in Ocala, Fla
