I have done some searching and I have come up with some good information on the door ID tag. However, my tag is missing and has been missing for years before I ever aquired the truck.

What is the best way or is there a way to get a replacement door ID tag for the truck?

    Thanks

    VIN Tag

Be aware that this # should match your title and you might consider adding the same # to the top of the left frame rail near the steering box .

It is quite difficult (for me anyways) to stamp numbers into the frame so they don't look like I did it .

The original VIN tag was stamped but any Trophy Shop can either stamp or emboss (raised like modenr vehicles) the tag for you .

Well that is the other issue is that there is no title either. I aquired the truck from my wifes dad when he passed but the plate and title were MIA. I apologize as I should have stated this is my original post.

    Thanks

I see you are from Texas so can maybe offer a little advice. If you can clean the frame and find the ID number you can look up "bonded titles" in the yellow pages and follow through their steps. Costs around $300 and you don't get a clear title for about 2 years. Next, you can get the packet from the DMV for "Items needed to register and title a rebuilt or assembled motor vehicle". A bit drawn out for a first timer but a total cost of around $25. The big drawback is it will come back as a 2012 assembled vehicle and if the engine is newer than 1968 it will have to have all the emissions equipment. Here's what on the packet list: Bill of sale for each---engine, frame, body. Pencil tracing of the frame number. Certified weight certificate. Form 61-A: application for registration of rebuilt motor vehicle. Form 30: application for Texas title. Photograph of vehicle. Form 68-A. And last, a Standard of Safety Affidavit. The last which is the most easy, the best, and the riskiest is to call a wrecker service with an impound lot and have them haul it to the impound lot. The larger ones have a sheriff's auction every couple months. You go to the auction and buy the vehicle and receive a form that you take to the tax office and they type you out a title on the spot that is for the correct year with no restrictions. The risk is someone else can run the bid up and the sheriff's office gets 10% of what the winning bid is and there's the towing fee and the paper processing fee. For a rare vehicle that a correct title adds much value it's an option but once again it's risky. You can google Car Title Services and there are a number that do everything for you for around $500.
