Clutch fork-->Painted? Red?

    While working on the restoration of my 51 I noticed that the clutch fork was painted red. Is this factory or did someone just paint it?

    I don't remember what color mine was... Or if it even had color on it?

    Does anyone have color photos of the engines on the assembly line showing the engines as they are lowered onto the frames?

    They had color films action of WWII.

    Clutch Fork Paint

    They were always gloss black as far back as I can recall .

    This means nothing as there were many different assembly plants and each one often had minute differences .

    I'd paint it black but you're footing the bill so paint it pink if that floats yer boat ! ;) .

    No pink for me thanks! The clutch arm is gloss black now. The timing is today regarding putting it back in. Thanks for the reply. The handle on the oil level stick btw, is also red. Makes me think some where in this truck's past was a "customizer!"

    Working on these old trucks is a bit like archeology- I have been finding all kinds of different ways mechanical pieces are held together, attached, mended etc.

    Quick car story? Years ago I bought an old used diesel Mercedes. The seller said he wanted to be straight forward and honest in that the reason the car was so cheap was it had a problem .... OK, what was the problem ... the car looked great, fairly low miles and ran well. There was something rolling around inside the car and nobody could find what it was. Everyone looked for it. Hmmmm I liked challenges so I bought it. It only happened during acceleration and it sounded like something rolling and then a light bonk or tap. Drove the car for about a half a year to the point where the whole family never thought twice about it. One day had the rear jacked up and I need to reach under the seat- It was a golf ball that fit perfectly in the seat channel rail. When the car stopped it went into the hidden portion of the channel.
