Thanks for the compliments guys. I have too many hobbies, Photography is one of them. Since starting this truck project, I have been drawn to old trucks.

 

Random electrical question.

My original batter was hooked up negative ground, so I assume the conversion had already been completed. Now I am questioning it.

In a negative ground set up, power goes to the coil on the pos terminal, and from the coil to the block on the neg terminal correct?

 

I think the Chevy's were Negative ground. The GMC's were positive.

Someone smarter then I can verify that.

 

You might be right......hopefully some one will chime in.

 

The truck is negative ground. The coil will get 12v from the switch, then - to distributor.

Verified the coil wiring. It was correctly.

Sure cannot wait to get this baby on the road!! Fires right up and purrs with the new 12v battery. I pretty much fire it up every couple of days.........and smile while it idles!!

Tried pulling the brake bleeders screws out last night. 2 of the 4 are seized.

 

Well winter is fast approaching on the plains and I am rushing to gt this ol truck mobil. I only have a small garage and my wife and I do custom furniture and refinishing as a side gig, so space is at a premium.

My main goal was to get it mobil and safe to move from it's parking space and into the garage, if I have time want to work on it over the winter.

We have alreay have had a couple shots of cold weather and snow, but overall it has been an awesome fall.



Yesterday with the help of a couple friends we were able to get the brakes bled and functional.

Feeling pretty pumped. It is a runner...... I can now sit back and save some $$$ during the winter and try to decide the best build direction for me. I am looking forward to pulling it into the garage on the weekends and tinkering!!

 

To whom it may concern: Please keep that white stuff up there where it belongs. I like working in just a sweatshirt. Southerners don't like that cold stuff.

 

Russ I'm right there with ya, I hate that stuff. Only like visiting it via the TV or flying over it at 30K ft. However your post card shot of years past can not be beat.

Sweatshirt ?!? I didn't realize it gets so cold there Russ.....

I always wear a tank top underneath my long sleeve Work Shirts.....


It helps to wick away the sweat .

 

At least it goes away in about 3 days....every once in a while we get a week long lingerer........we start getting annoyed. For some reason in the south, when the first mention of snow is heard, all bread and milk is bought up immediately.

 

In Ken & my neighborhood it's beer and chips bought up immediately.

 

It's _COLD_

All the way down to 56° F the other night ~ I closed the kitchen window and threw a light jacket in the back seat of the car just in case .

To - day it was 94° F in DownTown Los Angeles .

Yes , it's rough here but I'm man enough for the job .

I even roll up the window occasionally , I only wear long sleeves in the Junkyards tho' .

 

We are unseasonably 49 today, but will be back in the 60s this week.

 

Not much new on the project.

12V heater fan and a new fuel sending unit is on the way, along with 12v bulbs.

The muffler and tail pipe rotted off long ago on this truck. I bolted on a cheap Napa muffler to try and keep the peace in the neighborhood. I need to fab up some brackets and have the local muffler guy bend me a tail pipe. Even with the muffler right under the cab and no tailpipe it is whisper quiet.

Fuel tank is at the radiator shop getting boiled and sealed.

 

As a side gig my wife and I build custom furniture and do some refinishing.

Even though it is the wrong era......I though you guys might like to see this. 1961 GMC tailgate made into a bench.

 

That is just the greatest, thanks for sharing the photo, and you Idea, I have been saving some old tailgates for something, may be using some of the old wood I've found in the Desert I'll make one someday.

This one is made from 100% reclaimed lumber from an old treated wood fence a neighbor wanted tore down.. I sold it within 24 hours of posting it for sale.

I am now on the search for old tailgates!!
