Wood1 sent me some sweet rear lights, but I am puzzled. Can I set these up for all three functions and eliminate my seperate blinkers? Thanks guys!!
I would think that all you would need are dual filament bulbs and sockets. Is your rig still 6V or is it 12V? I don't remember without checking through your thread. Just match up the bulbs to your system's voltage... use the dimmer element in the bulb for the tail lamp and the brighter one for the stop and turn... you should be set. Damon
Incidentally... do you know what those "turn signals" are that were added you your truck? They look very similar to the front parking lamps on my oldest ladder truck. If you could take some measurements, I might be interested in taking them off your hands if you have no further plans for their use. Damon
Go to NAPA and pick up the sockets and 1154 bulbs, just tack or bolt the sockets to the housings and away you go.
Hey ! Whose house is that Charles . Those look like the TF taillights to me . You can use combined stop & taillights if you have a 6 wire turn signal switch . The lamps you got from Wood1 might have two seperate bulbs , might have dual filiment bulbs & sockets ~ either way works well . Me , I like those turn signal lamps and would keep them for both safety's sake and because you'll not often see another truck with them , I like to be different .
I did this as well for my front parking lights. My truck didn't have any tail lights, well one broken one. So I was basically starting from scratch, wires and all. I bought these dual contact conversions from our host. Ripped out the old ones, and re tacked the new ones in, then powder coated. http://www.classicparts.com/1947-59-Double-Contact-Conversion-Kit/productinfo/47-905/#.UUnB6TfNjTQ Took a while to figure out all the wiring. I had to follow the original wiring diagrams to figure out how to use the turnsignal switch and the flasher. But I believe I have those tails. I got them from our host as well. These I believe http://www.classicparts.com/1941-53...R-Glass-Lens/productinfo/49-024/#.UUnDIjfNjTQ Nate just cause I can
Lights.... Just went through this with my GMC....I made the parking lights, turn signals work, and bought a second set of front parking lights for rear back up lights. I bored a hole w/hole saw and installed them. They are really hard to find (the GMC parking light housings, but they work awesome and stays true to the era of the truck. I am really close to "the first ride" as I brought the truck to my mechanic to check out everything I have done. I will get it back next week and get it on the road.....
