wanted to start a new thread on this as some know im dealin with my engine and im tryin to figure out what i have, a 216 or a 235 and since its deff blue and hasnt been repainted by a young stupid youth, vwnate. so my engine code is AHCA965II9 and this website im using doesnt have any info to help http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/models/engine.htm anyone wanna help? thanks its in a 1950 3/4 ton floor shift
i think i figured it out AHCM ** Tonawanda 6 235ci ** "A" will precede prefix if motor is used on a 3600 and 3800 series. so AHCA is from Tonawanda plant and 6cylinder and i have a 235... right
216 & 235 engine. As what i can see the top cover is from a 216 engine. The AHCA engine series are made in Flint in 1950 and a 216 CU. volume. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/5052.htm Martinius.
yea this is hard. goin off that website and my ID its a 235 since its in a 3/4 ton, but the valve cover looks like a 216
early 235's had the 2 bolts out the top, which was what I was told some time back by a salvage dealer in the high desert by Edward Air Force Base, and seen over the years. Good reading below . thank you. they are all good reading but i still have more questions than answers... from what im gettin i have an early 235 with the 2 stud valve cover. but i dont understand the "pushrod cover extends from the valve cover, past the spark plugs and ends near the base of the distributor." part
pressure The gauges can be reinstalled later to give more accurate water/oil pressure indications but as far as i know a lot a trucks 3100 /3600/3800 also used a 0-30 gauges depending on what year they came and engine they used. 0-60 gauge for the 235 is correct! Take a look at the waterpump. The 235 has a long shaft water pump and the 216 a short shaft one. There mounted in the same location. 216 CU pump EBAY link; http://www.ebay.com/bhp/chevy-216-water-pump 235 pump & pully photo. That is a 216 for sure {could also be an early 235 splash engine}. Anyway ya cut it .... it is a pre-1954 babbitt pounder. The only sure way to decode the engine is to get the numbers & letters that are cast into the block right behind the starter..... post up that info. & I can decode it i my head.
Oops Sorry for running my mouth before I have coffee or get my alleged brain in gear . As Joe mentioned , you have there a Chevrolet ' Babbit Pounder ' engine so in the end it makes no difference , you tune both the 216 & 235 variants the same and cannot run them overly fast without tossing the rods and destroying it .
hmmm good info guys. thanks i just dont know what to do with this motor problem. i can throw a v8 in it and hopefully have a reliable runnin truck. but thats easier said than done.
That link is spooky, my first wife did that and I had a G at the time also. http://oi43.tinypic.com/2yphkwp.jpg
