The truck has developed an exhaust leak again and frankly I will give it another try. Kind of getting tired of this problem, to much.
Where is the leak? My 37 Buick has a manifold just like a Chevy 6 only two cylinders longer and gave me fits. Resurfaced it twice which would last about five years and then blow the manifold to head gasket even though I'd re-tighten the bolts once a year or so. The third time the resurfacing left the recess where the alignment rings go into the manifold too shallow for it to pull up against the head. As a stop gap measure to use while I rounded up another manifold I cleaned the gasket surface operating room clean and put a bead of red RTV silicone on it. Bolted up to the head with no alignment rings and still running leak free 20 years later. The RTV works by adhesion, not by compressing, so both surfaces have to be CLEAN. Used acetone as a final degreaser.
Thanks Evan, I had to use the belt sander to take off some of the alignment rings last time because the guy resurfaced it a little strong. Last time I cleaned and cleaned used finger nail polish remover then wiped it down again with denatured alcohol I use for cleaning windows and old glass and bottles. I have one more manifold set to use has some work that needs done to it. I'll also get the RTV red to use. Thanks a million, Charles
Type of Gasket ? Charles this sucks but i think its posseble to solve this problem ! What kinda gasket are you using and what about the manifold bolts do they have the original lenght or are they replacement bolts ? Have you looked at the alinement of the Blocks manifold side surface ? Martinius.

Oh , Boy Don't they make a gold color Permatex for exhaust gaskets ? . I have found another exhaust for you but you'll need to bring an alignment ring to make sure it's not a 216... Having done this dance I know how it is , not much fun .
One peace gasket Charles You could contact Tom Langdon about the one Peace thicker manifold gasket.The heat resistant RTV red silicone is a good solution when its difficult to get it closed. Martinius.
Charles, I did let the RTV set and cure for a couple days (or maybe a week) before I first started the engine. Hope it works out as well for you. I took these pictures to show someone how the starter works off the foot feed on an old Buick but you can see the red RTV squished out around the manifold in the background.
Paul, I have to now get the time to do it then hopefully no oil line breaks again. Bill, It's non-hardening so it comes apart easily. I should add to make sure the tube has "High Heat" RTV silicone on it.
Maifold Gasket Charles I have a sheet of synthetic fiber jointing 4 mm thick. The product is normally used in high pressure pumps and tolerates incredable much heat. I have used it my self fore different purposes where high heat is an issue. I can copy the gasket i have over to the sheet and send it to you if you want me to ? The only thing you have to do is to stanp or cut it out from the sheet. Tell me if Your intrested ? Incase you are i would need your home mailing adres , you could send me a pm. P.S. I checked NAPA parts list and they dont sell them whole gaskets for the 235 CU engine. Martinius.
Martinius, Thanks for the offer, what is the material called, maybe I can find it over here? I ordered gaskets and will get things ready most likely this will take me a whole weekend to do and possibly part of a day off because the way my back acting up. Charles
That's Why I mentioned the copper/gold colored RTV stuff.... it's better than the red stuff , made for exhaust use .
Gasket material Name is Klingerit in Norwegian but its made by Beldam Crossley.Its marked with the following spesifications ; Synthetic fiber jointing BS 7531 Grade Y, GS 178. My son used the copper/gold RTV and its amazing stuff like Nate says. Good Luck Martinius.
Thanks Marinius, I'll check around for that product. I can not work on the truck for a few weekends yet. I have a lot of projects going which have to be completed prior to doing this.
