I have a neighbor that has a bagged Toyota and right now he's doing a body dropped also his dad has a 88 chevy truck and just had the frame redone so the body sits on the ground.(This is what got me into my truck) anyways I wanted to bagged my truck and a friend with 15 years experience bagging trucks, said I will be always working on it because bagged trucks are not trouble free. He said I'll always be working on it once or twice a month tinkering with it. So he said just make a nice lowered truck! It will be trouble free and I will be able to drive anytime I want with no problems like dealing with leaks and such from bagging it.
Well, I keep seeing trucks bagged in magazines and such and just wondered what your setups are to have it drooped to the ground? Will a Mustang II and 2" drop spindles do it? I'll be 4 linking the back with a c-notched frame, I'm also going to have my truck setup so if I decide to bagged it all I will have to do is buy the bag system and drop it in!
So what mods to make it hit the ground with these trucks?
And for those how have them bagged do you have to tinker with the bagged system often?

    Thanks

Let The Bodies Hit The Floor...

It's been my experience that most of the fellas here at the Classic Parts site like stock trucks or slightly modified trucks. So I am skeptical that you'll get the advice you are after.

As for me, I like stock trucks and modified trucks from mild to wild but I never have understood the concept of the "body sitting on the ground". And here's why I don't get it:
    • To pull this off you will find that you almost always will render the truck useless as a truck.
    • That's because you need to notch the rear frame and alter the front suspension dramatically.

Making the functional dysfunctional is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Fatman stage 3 superlow with 2" spindles.
95 T bird IRS mounted as high as it would go in the frame without cutting the bed floor.
    3 gal tank
3 way manifold (4) air solenoids.
    Airbagit.com 5000 compressor.

I rarely tinker with my setup. I'm too busy driving it or working on other people's hot rods. I first bagged it in 2006, still rollin.

It rides better thn it did as a 3/4 ton. I haul scrap metal and engines in it all the time, be shure to show these pictures to the guy who said it would ruin it as a truck.

Well, as far as bagged trucks can't be used as trucks, depends on the design. Almost all semi-trucks and trailers are "bagged", air-ride suspension. In 35 years of owning big-rigs, I would never want to go back to a spring suspension.
Now, I realize we are talking about pickups, but a airbag should be able to carry a load the same as a spring and also adjust ride height to maintain driveline angles.
I kinda agree with Lakeroadster, that they look funny squatted down on the ground, but, to each his own.

I'm at 99.9% sure I'm going to bagged my truck. I wanted to do it in the beginning and then some friends talked me out of it because of maintain cue reasons, but it's always been at the back of my mind. Luckily the MII I bought from a company in L A bagged's all there customers trucks so all I have to do is buy the front bags and take out the springs. As for the back they have a 2 link setup that has everything to bagged it and c-notch the frame. I just know I'll much happier doing what I wanted to do in the first place. Plus with the setup I'm doing if I decided to change to a regular truck all I have to do is take out the bags and throw the springs in the front and coilovers in the back. :D

My comments were based on Ricos post where he asked for advice about lowering a truck to the point that the "body sits on the ground".

Nothing wrong with bagged trucks.. I put air springs on the back of my '27 Roadster Pickup, rides great.

I'm not going to do anything to the body, I was just making a statement that made me want to bagged my truck. I want it to sit on the ground in stock form like Chebby's truck. I'm going to put bags in my MII and going to put in a 2 link with a C-Notch on my 9" ford with that setup my running boards should come close. :)

Also I found out with the bag setup the truck will haul over a 1000lbs!

Yes I will have to raise the floor, I already have the 2 rails for the inside of the bed. Guess I'll have to figure that out when I get to it.

I haul stuff all the time, I didn't want to raise or cut my bed. It is fun watching people trying to figure out how I dropped it that low with stock floor. Only a few notice the negative camber on my rear wheels.

I've been told with the MII they can be aligned so they drive straight and true. Only when it's parked and dropped is when the tires are tilted in!

I was thinking if I keep the floor the same and only raise it up where the c-notch is I will have a bench seat on both sides of my bed! ;)
