    has this happened to anybody with the o/d transmissions
    after a 30-35 mile trip on freeway at about 60-65 mph after i get off the freeway the o/d gears dont want to shift it has only happened twice so i was thinking maybe the kick down switch was over heating its mounted on the throttle rod on the carb but after the truck sat awhile the o/d was shifting fine i also thought maybe the transmission got hot from freeway drive.
    i was thinking of putting the kick down switch button in the cab so if i needed to kick down a gear just push the button with my finger.
    the way the guy Fred set it up is with the kick down switch so o/d is always on unless i disengage the cable. has anybody else had any issues with this?
    thanks Robert

    O.D. Problems ?

    Robert ;

    It's not clear what you're expecting it to do ;

    O.D. doesn't ' down shift ' , when you let off the throttle and cut the OD's power it kicks down into direct drive and the tranny operates as normal .

    You shouldn't try to disengage OD @ 65 MPH ~ that's a bit too fast .

    Maybe re write what it's doing that you don't like , a little clearer ? I don't understand .

    o/d

    mine is set where the o/d is always on shift reg 1st gear reg 2nd gear rpm up let off the gas than o/d 2nd shifts 3rd reg let off the gas than 3rd o/d gear kicks in than slow down and 3rd o/d kicks down to 3rd reg and so on but after a 30-40 mile drive on freeway at 60-65 mph get off freeway 1st shift to 2nd rpm up let off the gas than o/d 2nd dont want to engage come to a complete stop pull out cable disengage o/d and all 3 regular gears shift fine let her sit a couple of hours push in o/d cable than the o/d gears shift fine again. so i was thinking that either the kick down swithe thats mounted to the carb rod is getting a lot of engine heat or the transmission itself is getting hot.

    Over Drive

    Well ;

    I read that and have been thinking about it .

    # 1 error is not using the governor as it prevents you from using OD in first gear .

    Other than that I don't really understand why it's fouling up Robert , I always suggest setting it up so you can use second gear over drive to scoot up steep hills with ease .

    Maybe a power cutoff switch would help ? kill the power whilst in OD then ease off the gas to release the sun gear's pawl......

    o/d

    i just think the kick down switch is getting hot. i love the o/d set up so i just might move the switch or wrap it with so heat shield.
