So my dad and i are getting ready to put the box on my 1960 Apache and this is what happened. I NEED HELP.When we put the box frame together this is what we got. There is a LARGE gap in between the cab and the back of the box. HMMMMMMM. We don't know what we did wrong. If there is anyone out there could you please help us out. Matthew
What vintage bed are you using? Based on how your wheels look in the step side fenders, and the gap between the bed and the cab, the bed needs to move forward. No big deal, move it forward and re-drill the holes in the frame. Notice how your wheels are towards the front of the wheel well opening, while mine are towards the rear... Looks as if your bed is tilted back which is exasperating the issue, do you have all the bed sills in place, can`t tell by your photos.. Also just noticed your headboard, front of the bed is on backwards, flip it around....!
i wil get some better pictures than the ones that i posted. I will flip the back part around. I think we will have to relocate the holes that the bed rail bolts on to. Yes the bed is tilted we have not put the bottom part of the tailgate or the tail gate on yet. Thank you for the help i will keep posting pictures as the build goes on. The whole truck was in storage for 10 years before i bought it from the owner. I will hopefully be getting a 1994 Chevy Step Side short box as a doner truck. Looks to me like you have a 6 foot frame and your trying to mount a 6.5 ft bed??? That's what i came up with. Yer wheels are slightly towards the front of the fender....I think the bed is slightly to long...I could be wrong.
Everything is done on the 1960, i have a disc front end on it from a 73. I'm just wanting the rear end, sterring column, seat, wiring harness. fuse blocks, stuff like that. I didn't know they made a 6.5 ft bed. Nothing that we can't handel. Thank You for all the help. Matthew

If that were true the bed would be to long, not to short. No such thing as a 6' stepside bed, from the factory. 6-1/2', 8' and 9' were available on the stepside beds from 2nd series 1955 through 1966 What were you planning to do for your spare tire carrier? Matthew, ALways glad to help. One thing to keep in mind is I used a fender from a 8 foot bed, which is different from the fender used on the 6-1/2 foot bed. You can see the difference in the photos below. The long bed fender mounts the spare tire lower. Stock spare tire location for a short bed fender: ] The easiest way to tell the difference at a glance: There is no hole in the spare tire recessed area on a long bed fender, as shown below: Short Bed Fender, with the hole: Long Bed Fender, without the hole:
