The mystery has been solved and resolved easily. The large jam nut that the steering shaft comes in from the top was loose. When I move the shaft, that nut was moving side to side with it. I tighten the nut and most of that play went away.
Whew, that was an easy fix. I wish they were all...
I use to have about 1/4 wheel of play in the steering. Most of that was in the pitman arm. When I was out last weekend, I noticed the steering now has about 1/2 wheel of play. This occured when I was on my way home. When I left, it was still a 1/4 wheel of play.
When I turn the steering...
drabo, I did the alternator checks you mentioned and it checks out fine.
On the left side of the fuse box, there are connections that items can be connected too. My air compessor is connected to one, and a horn is connected to another. I disconnected both of them and nothing changed. I was...
Nothing was changed on the truck before it happened the first time and I had the truck for at least 6 months before it happened. I think I posted on here back then. I replaced the voltage regualtor and the issue went away.
This truck has not been messed with as far as the wiring. Its fairly...
One more thing. At the horn relay, there are 3 10 guage wires that intersect there. One goes to the battery, one goes to the alternator and one goes to the dash. They are connected at the same place at the horn relay.
If I disconnect the wire going to the dash, the light goes out and nothing...
The alternator I installed yesterday is new and this happened with the old one too. I had the starter tested yesterday and it was good.
Thanks for your help. I will try the testing you suggested later today.
This is an issue I had a few months ago and resolved it by replacing the voltage regulator. A couple of weeks ago, it happened again. When the ing key is in the off position, the Gen light comes on. It is not on when the truck is running.
Today I replaced the 37amp alternator with external...
Thanks Leyland. I have been showing this truck 3-4 times a month. It really attracts some attention. I even got a trophy a few weeks ago for Most Unique. Who knew.
I went and looked again. The mount are not offset. So this has to be the 230-250.
Now, how can I tell if this is the size...
I have the casting number too. Its 3877178. From one site I looked at it says it is a 1962-78 230-250. Im not sure how to narrow it down. I would say the side covers are 4".
