I'm new to the forum. I just purchased a 54 Deluxe pickup. It had a 235 and Hydramatic, but they are out of the truck. The engine is unusable, so I'm looking for a bolt in replacement. Will the 230/250 blocks bolt in? Any advice?

Many of the 250 blocks had the mounts on the side of the block. You could make an adapter to use these mounts, or you may be able to drill and mount the 235 front mount to the block, stock style.

The 250/292 swap is just that---a swap and not a simple bolt in. That said, it makes a nice combination when done since it will let you use any of the bellhousings and transmissions offered for the 4cyl, 6cyl, and V8 both small and big block. I take it you are doing away with the torque tube type rear end. These engines are tough, smooth, and with seven main bearings plus a much better oiling system they can take a beating or handle some pretty radical hot rodding. I'd bet that if you google Chassis Engineering in Iowa that they will probably have both a bolt in or weld in engine mounting kit. Do you still have the old engine and Hydramatic? Would be very interested in the starter if you do.
