Check out http://www.700r4.com Read TV 101. You should go easy on that trans if it has not been rebuilt to take over 400 hp. I used an Early Classic trans crossmember, Lokar Nostalgia shifter, and used a wired automatic lockup converter. I'm lazy AND forgetful, so remembering to lock/unlock the converter was not an option fo me. Check out the pictures of my panel in the Member Galleries here at Classic Parts. I used a bench seat out of a late 90's GM extended cab. https://talk.classicparts.com/photos/member.php?uid=6&protype=1 Val
I got my 700R4 from http://www.maddogtransmissions.com/. It worked like a champ right out of the crate. I got the crossmember from CPP. It is tubular and was easy to install. Sorry no choice but to shorten the driveshaft, but it didn't cost that much to do. I got the lock-up kit from www.bowtieoverdrives.com along with the bolt kit, dust cover, and speedo gears. I atempted to use the stock shifter on the tranny. It did work for a temporary set up but you won't be able to shift into first. It will also throw the indicator out of wack and you'll need to adjust the neutral saftey switch. I finally installed a B&M Truck Megashifter (you don't even have to drop the tranny to install). It is alot bulkier than the Lokar but it includes everything to hook it up. Lokar will nickle and dime you to complete the install. Good luck.
"Lokar will nickle and dime you to complete the install." Not sure what that means ?? I bought the shifter,,, and installed it.....
Dval Lokar Hey Dennis, On The Lokar Subject, I Got The Lokar Tranny Dipstick, 36" Firewall Mount. I Mounted It To The Left Of The Brakebooster, Looks Great!! Fits Great!! Very Easy To Put In. One Question Though, On These Dipsticks For The Th350 They Mount In The Tranny With Only 2 Orings And A Little Silicone. Thats The Same As The 700r Isnt It? Do These Actually Keep From Leaking? Im Just Concerend That Not Being Able To Bolt The Dipstick Down Close To The Tranny That I Might Develope A Leak. Whats Your Thoughts Dennis. P.s. Lokar Shifters Kick A#@!!!! The Ol Skool Look Is The Best, I Also Like Gennie Shifters.
Can't speak for the TH350 dipstick, but I do believe the 700 R4 version is as you described. Mine never leaked. I guess it's held in place by a combination of the O rings and the upper mount. I used the 21 inch Lokar Nostalgia Shifter. If I had it to do over, I'd use the 16 incher. Val
Good, Im Glad Yours Never Leaked, That Means I Should Have Good Luck With It Too. Do You Wish You Used The 16" For Easier Shifting Less Throw? I Personally Like The Longer Ones, I Love The Old Look Of The Shifter Knob (or What Have Ya) Up Close To The Ceiling. Looks Good But Functionability Is Of Course Poor. Thanks for the reply on the dipstick
Functionally ?? ! Who cares !! The 21 inch shifter, in Park, is VERY close to the dash. It looks goofy when parked at shows... Val
