Hi guys, been cleaning up gunk and sanding on the frame. Lots of good progress that will go on hold for a week or so as I get together with the family in Florida. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving (I'll be trying to convince my boys to come visit for Christmas and help me make some big progress on the truck!!!!) While cleaning up the frame I found an interesting spot about 3 inches toward the rear of the truck behind the rear shock absorber brackets. It's the same on both sides and looks like something has worn its way into the top flange of the frame by about 1/16th inch. Almost looks like one of the bed supports was sliding side to side and wore this grove that is about 1/4 inch wide. My question; is this suppose to be there or do I need to get out the crackerbox and fill it up. I would have done it but since it is exactly the same on both sides I thought maybe it belonged there. As always, thanks for any help I can get
Steve, it sounds like you may have had the crossmember rubbing up against the frame. Go to my "Members Gallery" pictures and look at my frame for reference. There should be 3 pictures that show the frame just ahead of and just behind the shock brackets. Hope this helps. Oh, BTW, when you took the bed off, were the wooden blocks that support the bed worn alot? That might explain it.
No blocks Ken, thanks for leading me to your pics. Looks like I have a little issue but nothing that can't be fixed. I like playing with the welding machine anyway! Hard to believe a little rubbing could cut groves like this. They almost looks machined! I believe you hit in on the head. My wood blocks were long gone when I took the bed apart.
