I recently installed a new gas gauge & sending unit. I finally got the gas gauge to work , but I reversed the battery to a negitive ground so the gauge works but truck won't start .1954 3100 any help would be apprecited
Check all your connections from the battery to the starter, including at the ignition back to the barttery. Also be sure to check all the needed grounding points. Check to see if the battery is even alive still. When you turn on the key does it go to; 1. neg draw or 2. show the needle at positve?
thanks for the info , i put a new wire harness on i think thats a must when restoring old vehicles. i should have proofread my message i did not try to start the truck i was afraid of frying the regulater so if i switch the voltage regulater to a negative ground one. the system should be alright i hope. thanks for answering my call rick
You should reverse the wires on the back of the amp gauge otherwire it will show you are discharging all the time.
Pos To Neg. Grounding If you're running a generator , the voltage regulator cares not a whit . Nor does the fuel gauge . The starter doesn't care either . The Ignition coil does . You mention a 1954 3100 , this would have been negative ground from new.. Those FUGLY Jimmy's now , they're *SO* screwed up they came with posative ground .
