Oh BEHAVE!!! Get your minds out of the gutter. Let's say I'm planning on taking my Old Navy truck on a three hour drive to upstate New York where the shop that slapped together over 900 of these beauties for the Old Navy store chain is. Let's say I'd rather be safe than sorry and want to carry along a spare tire, jack etc. I think I have an original bottle style jack although not sure. I still need the handle that operates the jack. I can carry along my breaker bar, extension and socket to change out the tire if needed. Where exactly does one place the jack on these vehicles to change a tire? Under the axles fore and aft? BTW, number one son and I had a good day working on the truck today. Had him under the dash swapping out the speedo for a spare I had laying around so I can have the original repaired. Also test fitted the underbed spare tire carrier so as to finally mount it up. Stock carrier does not allow the fatter tires. Easy modification. Just had to get a longer bolt to replace the T-bolt that is stock. Carrier should be in place by the weekend. Thanks, Andy
You're supposed to jack it by the center of the plate holding the spring to the axle . isn't this in the owner's booklet ? . Work carefully and never , EVER trust a jack ! slide the spare partially under the truck so if it falls , you can still begin again .
Go Hydraulic! Andy, go to Northern Tool or Harbor Freight and buy a hydraulic bottle jack. Both places have them for less than $20. Beats the heck out of trying to get an original one to work. Come to think about it, I'll bet Super Wallyworld has 'em too! Cheap insurance and hope you never have to use it!
Auto Club Service You're going to let a grade school dropout slide a tolley jack underneath your beloved TRUCK ?! Heck , I hate SWMBO's Toyletta but I'd not do that to it btw ; the original screw typ bottle jacks are fine , just remember to test it and lube as needed before you're on the side of the road discovering it's rusted up or full of sand.... Older Datsun 620 pickups come with a really good cast iron screw typ bottle jack..... occasionally I find one down @ the P-A-P yard .
