We have a 1930 Model A DeLuxe Roadster that was bought from a museum in St. Louis for premium dollars. The owner is for strict originality and very good to show finish so where there were flaws in the metal work and crazing in the laquer paint he wanted it redone from the frame up. A good friend and Model A guru told me that one of the latest scams is to sell cars through museums since one believes them to be pristine when in reality they are junk. This car is butchered beyond belief but every thing was covered with shiny paint and a very good upholstery job. Probably will never have to worry about our old trucks but anything that is a hot item or anything that the top folds down on needs close examination by an expert.
So called car museums are frequently private collections that someone is using to turn a few extra bucks. I've dealt with a couple that use their business front to consign cars. Your exactly right.... It's buyer beware. I wouldn't call it a scam per se, but pretty damn close!
