    I noticed today as I was working on my engine,( I'm re-gasketing it,pan, rear main, freeze plugs, etc.), that the 1st lifter is a solid lifter the rest of them are hydraulic. It's a '60 235. Anybody got any ideas on what that's about? Seems awful strange to me. And, I guess I adjust it accordingly, as you would normally adjust solid lifters? Anyone seen this before ?

    Yep ;

    The olh hydraulic lifter just collapsed and some one threw in whatever they had at the moment ~ this is far more common than you'd think . adjust it as you'd adjust any solid lifter .

    Remember : when adjusting the juice lifters , DO NOT turn the adjuster screw 1 - 1/2 turns like most shop manuals specify ! :eek: adjust each one to barely zero lash then 90° ~ 180° more MAXIMUM .

    Thanks Nate, pretty much what I thought, just wanted a second opinion. It just kinda caught me by surprise, that I'd come across something like that.
