    Hi everyone,

The previous owner of my truck stuck in a radiator that is the wrong size and just not doing the job, It is only 3/4" thick, but is too wide to fit down between the frame rails on the original mounts, as a result the fan is an extra 3-4 inches away and there is no place for a shroud. There is a place near me that makes nice aluminum radiators, but I want to make sure I get the right size. the truck has a 283

    the dimensions I have so far are 17 1/2" high x 25 1/4" wide x 1 7/8" thick

    thanks

    Vic

an aluminum rad will be over-kill for that 283. You can go with a stock 3 core radiator, or if paranoid, a 4 core "desert" cooler. It should be less than an aluminum rad.

Many aftermarket folks carry them. I "think" I used Radiators.com when I replaced the radiators in my Chevelle ( twice ! Don't ask!) and once in my panel. They delivered right to the door too !

Val is right... plus, you know you are getting the right size! Stock 3 core should be plenty good for you AND easy to repair if you get a problem on the road. I believe there are some size variations depending on year of your truck.

I figured the Aluminum rad would be more than I needed, but the guy who makes them is a friend of my uncle and said he would make me one for $200 which is cheaper than the "stock" ones I found on JC Whitney. I was just concerned with the fit as I don't want to take it back to the guy, I actually hadn't considered having to repair it in the road though.

    The truck is a 1965

If you let the guy do it... make sure he makes it fit. Take him the saddles- upper and lower before he starts. Repair on the road is not to be sneezed at, eh?
