I want to change the alternator on my 71 to the newer style internal voltage regulator type.so I am wondering what wires I need to run to it? and what do I do with all that extra wiring that went to the voltage regulator? just tear it out or what?.thanks.Karl

When you change over to a internal regulated alternator you are do away with the voltage regulator, I would also suggest changing over to a HEI set up.

Karl, You need THIS wire from our hosts at ChevyDuty.

    (1963-72) Alternator Conversion Kit
An External to Internal Regulator kit. Easy plug-in conversion that can be used with 1985 and earlier series alternators.
    Part # 52-896

Price ? $15. Makes the conversion a half hour job, no muss, no fuss, and a very clean installation. I used this same harness in a 72 Chevelle I converted with the same results.
