Patch panels for 72 chevy doors...

    Are these part #44-617 (inside) and #44-717 (outside) made to go over the existing metal, or can you cut the bottom of the door off, and weld the new inside and outside pieces together, and weld where new and old metal meet at the top of the patch panels and bottom of where door was cut?

    These are made for you to cut the rusted metal out and replace it with these, you can not weld the inner and outer togather then weld it into the door because you have to support the inside when doing this, if not it will not line up or you will have a huge crater, i suggest getting a flanging tool from snap-on, craftsman or even harbor frieght and making atleast a 1/2 flange so you have somthing to weld to.
