Hello All, Once again I am stumped by my '51 3/4 ton so I thought I would turn to the experts - I was under the impression that I had split rims, and per Nate's advice I was going to change them out. But now that I look at them, I am not sure what they are. As is shown in the pic, the outer rim is a continuous circle. I thought a split rim had a gap or split somewhere along the outer rim. The tire is tubeless, and I just finished reading that split rims need to have a tire with an inner tube. I am hoping to be able to keep the wheels, but not too sure about anything now. Any help appreciated ! Ed
Those are the original 15" 2 piece split rims. The grey ring separates from the orange rim itself. Those rims do require tubes & flaps as they will not hold air without them.
Great Thanks DZT. How the heck did they get that ring off if there was no split to insert a tool under and peel it off? Just curious.
The inner lip of the lock ring is not round.... it's more oblong & after deflating the tire you can rotate the ring to one specific position to where you can pry it off the rim.
Solid wheel Can you run a solid wheel tubeless? The local flaps has what look to be the correct valve stems. Why, other than they will not hold air, do the splits not hold pressure? I was planning on going tubeless on original 16" rims. Any advantages to putTing a tube in? Thanks Papy
