How much oil goes in a 1958 235 out of a truck with a filter? I researched and got several different answers. 5 qts was the fast answer but then some said to add two qts if it had a filter. Don't want to over fill or run low. Another question I always fill my twist on filter before installing but it looks like doing so with this filter the oil will just drain into the pan. I'm not the best mechanic but learning. Thanks Papy
capacity So I run six in mine but I have a little story to tell. The oil pickup tube and screen is on the driver side of the oil pan in a 235. I have noticed that unless the oil is EXACTLY at the "full" line on my dipstick I have this little "issue". If the oil is even the slightest amount low on the dipstick when I go around a left handed curve, the oil pressure will suddenly begin to fall. As soon as I come out of the curve, the oil pressure returns to normal. If the oil level on the dipstick is a bit lower (not even to the point where you would think to add a quart), the same left handed curve may make the oil pressure DIVE to almost zero until I come out of the curve. Apparently the centrifugal force of the turn causes the oil in the pan to slosh over to the passenger side starving the pickup tube of the essential life blood of the engine. My fix for this? I run my truck with about half a quart to a full quart over the full line on the dipstick and left handed curves no longer affect the oil pressure. Anybody else notice this? Andy
Line on dipstick Andy At 5 qts the dipstick reads full. There is no oil in the filter yet. I reread your post does the oil stay in the filter? And, you try to keep the oil at 6 1/2 qts. Thanks for all the help from everyone. Going to try to fire the truck up this week and drive it. Only 10 years. Papy
