I have a 51 GMC and under the truck is a round thing that doesn't appear to be attached to anything. Picture enclosed: thanks for any ideas on what it might be.
That is an old time "Bermuda Bell". It should have a plunger rod run up through the floor that you stepped on for the ding-dong sound.
Thanks Evan, that also explains the hole in the floor. I'm guessing the plunger is going to be a hard to find part
Bermuda Bell Doesn't J.C. Whitless sell them any more ? . Long ago Taxis in Bermuda were horse drawn carriages and they used this bell instead of a horn , Tourists loved them and so bought them to add to their vehicles when they came home to America.....
Bermuda Bell Here ya go, Russ. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Sut...Parts_Accessories&hash=item25965a4f60&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/FANTASTIC-V...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a4487f58f&vxp=mtr
Russ, I'll keep you in mind if I can't get a plunger for it. The screws are stripped so it appears that a previous owner tried to do something with it.
But I'm cheap/ poor....and they want serious money for those! I'm a beg/ borrow/ swap/ steal kinda guy.........
_NOT_ ' cheap ' !!! Russ , I know you're in The South but the basic Yankee Thrifty Farmer excuse comes in here ~ . Maybe you're...... uh I dunno , you figure it out but ' cheap ' isn't right .
