I have a 51 GMC and under the truck is a round thing that doesn't appear to be attached to anything. Picture enclosed:

thanks for any ideas on what it might be.

That is an old time "Bermuda Bell". It should have a plunger rod run up through the floor that you stepped on for the ding-dong sound.

Thanks Evan, that also explains the hole in the floor. I'm guessing the plunger is going to be a hard to find part :)

    Bermuda Bell

    Doesn't J.C. Whitless sell them any more ? .

Long ago Taxis in Bermuda were horse drawn carriages and they used this bell instead of a horn , Tourists loved them and so bought them to add to their vehicles when they came home to America.....

Russ, I'll keep you in mind if I can't get a plunger for it. The screws are stripped so it appears that a previous owner tried to do something with it.
