hello! norman new guy here.. i just picked up a 77 heavy half from an online auction. way far from the smartest thing ive ever done. it has an 84 305 in it with a t350 year unknown. the ground from neg term to front light wiring started cooking 15 secs after startup. placed ground (4ga) from steering pump to frame. tried again with same result. ordered vehicle specific wiring diagrams, should be in my sweaty hands soon. im thinking starter ground ng but unable to ck due to wet weather. any and all advice would be deeply appreciated! i only hope that the lack of horns and associated wiring is not a sign of things to come. also, anyone know the best fuse location to tap for the electric choke?

I would try to get a wiring diagram for the year the motor is as well and make sure your alternator is working correctly
