    Hello Guys,

My 235 engine as been sitting awhile while my truck is being restored and I think I should try to turn the motor. Any ideas of a simple way that I can turn the motor so nothing gets stuck when the day I would like her to Start there isn't any issues?

Don't need to turn it until you're ready to start it.
For now, simply keep it lubed so it doesn't rust.
Wal-Mart (and others) carry an aerosol fogging oil just for this purpose.
Simply pull the plugs and put a shot in each cylinder, then replace the plugs.
Drain the carb, even if you have to remove it and pour the gas out to do so.

    James ;

You can turn it with the starter if you like , that'll prevent the rings from sticking in their bores...

DO NOT run it on the ground ! .

Unless you hook up a tank of water....

    Thanks Nate,
Forgive me but never did this before. I was thinking of the starter but not sure how to even attemp this. Should I just reconnect the batterry and simply try to turn it over? I guess my question is then how would you bump the Engine without hitting the ignition switch?

Sorry, still trying to learn the basic here.

Block the wheels so the truck can't roll.

Remove the spark plugs (greatly reduces power needed to turn over an engine that is not locked). It would not hurt to spritz a little light weight oil (or ATF or Marvel Mysery Oil [some guys swear by a 50/50 mixture of ATF and Acetone]) into each spark plug hole. Not much, no more than a teaspoon per hole.

    Put transmission in neutral.

Try turning engine by grabbing engine fan blades and turning. Watch the crankshaft pulley (fan belt goes aroung the fan, generator and the crankshaft pulley which is the lowest point the belt travels. If the crankshaft pulley moves at all you are half way home. If not, try rocking the fan back and forth. If it moves easily, but the crankshaft does not, the belt is loose.

If the move the fan method doesn't move the crankshaft you could try the starter, still with the spark plugs out. No need to turn the ignitionn switch on, just stomp the big "button" next to the gas pedal. If this doesn't work, let it sit for a day or two and try again after the oil you squirted in each cylinder has a chance to work.

Sorry I'm late , been struggling with the 250 CID engine for my '69 C/10 .

It's looking pretty but not there yet  ~ needs more small parts , I'd beat the jerk who worked on it before I owned it if I knew who it was .

Photos soon in the appropriate forum .
