Had a fellow drop by the shop that said he had put a completely gone through 235 in his 53 and it would almost run but back fired from both the exhaust and carb. He said he had checked and re-checked and had the plug wires and timing right and wanted someone else to look before he pulled the engine to return to the builder and have the cam timing checked. He readily admitted he was a first time novice at working with an engine. As soon as he opened the hood things didn't look right with the plug wires. I asked why it was wired like it was and he said Patrick's had told him a 235 was numbered 153624 so he took it that the front cylinder was #1, the second cylinder was #5, the third was 3 (correct), the fourth was #6, etc. With #1 and #3 firing in the correct order it would run for a few revolutions once and awhile. A little wire swapping and it purred. After we had a good laugh I told him I was the same way with computer information, people explain way too fast and assume I know SOMETHING when in reality I know nothing.
Stovebolt Firing Order It's dead simple to remember , just think about Women : 15 is TOO YOUNG 36 is TOO OLD 24 is JUST RIGHT .
