sorry for delay, Ive been working and working on truck and living life, Ive been enjoying this truck the whole time, my only complaint is theirs no leg room.lol. Ive gotten all mechanical done just needs body work done. just turned over 89,000 miles. 60 mph cranking 3,000 rpm its no speed demon but it will tow anything, i might need to upgrade the all wheel drums soon.lol. sorry again for delay hopefully pic load

I love the Chevy II steering wheel & horn ring too .

FWIW , you can easily add more speed & less RPM's by buying bigger diameter tires....

 

Way back in the foggy recesses of my brain I seem to recall the Camper Specials had the GMC style rear leaf springs. Can't remember what the Custom Camper had. Chevy also had a Heavy Half which had the GMC suspension IIRC.

 

You are correct on the horn ring, but that is an original stock item for the Custom Camper...the wheel is a 16" instead of the 14". I'd like to have the smaller one in mine~

 

They had the coils as well as a half-elliptical leaf "helper" spring for over load capacity...

 

Steering Wheels

O.K. then ~ just go buy a 14" Chevy II wheel and slap it on ~ Generous Motors kindly used the very same spline across all lines for decades making custom mash ups dead simple and SAFE too .

 

I've thought about it, but the last time I found them they were $$$pricey...and I still haven't taken the trip to any local swapmeets to find one to re-do...blah, blah...right?

I had no idea old Nova steering wheels were expensive .

 

after doing a little more research, I'm finding the early Impala/Nova (original type) wheels are getting harder to locate... i'ts easy to find a generic 14 incher grant or something to slap on there, around $140 new...
I'd have to bondo and paint an old one, but I could still use my custom cab horn ring, and anything under 16" diameter would be a relief to my 'physique'..LOL

 

It has 4 link set up with coils at each corner. It turned over 90k miles. I just had my 3rd back surgery. I think im going to have to sell it. Along with everything else to pay for medical bills and everything. I love this truck. But still no leg room. Rocker fell off drivers side last time i sat in it. Still starts right up .

I always wonder why folks cover the license tag with their finger when it's displayed every where you drive ....... ?? .

 

I sometimes wonder that, also. Obviously, an attempt to remain anonymous on the interweb. Not a bad idea, ever.
I have to drive around with name, town, D.O.T. number, and even one of the places I work for, requires a RFID tag! Anyone with a RFID reader app. on their phone can read it while in traffic...Yikes...

I've had mine since 84. I'm the second owner and it had 64,000 mi. on the clock when I purchased it. Had a 10' cabover camper on it and was all original! 327 4bbl, turbo 400, 4:56 posi., pwr steering, power brakes, factory a/c, chrome bumpets,custom cab. I paid $1,500 for it!! It overheated and cracked the block so I replaced the engine with a 383 stroker. Full roller motor w/ Dart heads, edelbrock SY-1 intake, 780 dbl pump Holley, Hooker headers, MSD ignition, custom built T400 w/Continental 2800 stall convertr, etc.. OMG, Pulls like a freight train!! Total sleeper! I removed the gas tank from behind the seat and had a stainless 22 gal tank made that sits between the frame rails in the back. Its now 2017 and its time to do a frame off resto and paint. Four corner disc brakes and modern pwr steering are on the list along with vintage air a/c/ heat upgrade.
