rewire project prep has begun

Ok getting ready to dive into the rewire project and I must admit that I am nervous! Attached are pics of prep so far, awaiting a few parts from sponsor.

I am open and welcome any and all feedback. I think I will drive the Old Boy until all parts are in and I have sketched out the "As Is" wiring.

Thoughts?

 

Sounds like a plan

The best thing I did was take out the seat, pull the clutch and brake pedals, and then build a plywood deck the went across the base of the seat frame and over into the toe board. This made working under the dash so much more comfortable.

 

Zig I was thinking of removing seat, need to fix seat belt anyway, had not thought of plywood. Thanks!

 

I don't see a heat gun to use with shrink tubing.

 

Worth the effort!

You'll need to stack up some lumber on the floor pan to make the plywood level, but then you can put some padding on top of the plywood.
You will spend some quality time under the dash, so you might as well get comfy, right?

It looks like you have the right plan .

Is there a soldering iron in the mix ? .

Don't forget to add ground wires here and there between body panels and the frame , the engine and the cab firewall and another to the frame .

If too many wires bother you , they're easy to hide by installing underneath things , grounds are VERY important ! .

 

Bill yes the heat gun was on the other workbench.

Yes I will prepare the floor to be comfortable.

Question, Should I remove gauges and work wiring through dash? Or work from behind?

 

Take the gauges out and reinstall later it makes thing easier also.

 

Be careful with the oil pressure gauge. I remember how I felt when I finished all that stuff, started the engine, and then saw oil dripping on my shoe. :/

 

Post Typ Connections

The main thing Denis , is to always hold the connector as you snug up the nut as the threaded post will want to turn and if it does , usually that gauge is instantly kaputi .

Remember to wad up a big clean towel or pillow for your head when you're lying on your back under the dash....

 

Yes patience will be the key. Thanks for the tips. I once spent most of a week inside a fire control system on a submarine replace a monster of a harness. Hopefully that will serve me well.

Having gone below decks on a few boats , I don't envy you that job Denis ! .
