I think the horsepower race is on again between the Big 3 American auto companies. Chrysler quit taking orders for the 707hp Challenger when orders exceeded build capacity, Corvette is offering a 765hp unit, and Ford has a 1200hp Mustang offering from Shelby with an 850hp being standard. I remember the "Muscle Car" era when emissions laws and government mandate ended the race. When I was in Iowa a month ago every road except interstates had a 55mph speed limit so I wonder who buys these cars. The really amazing thing to me is the wife can drop the kids off at day care with one of these fire breathers. My nephew is putting a Whipple supercharged LS engine and six speed trans in a 70 Camaro this week and I'm putting a 235 six with a BW overdrive trans in a 57 3100. I'd take bets on who's going to enjoy their ride more.
Ab-so-lute-ly!!! I also remember when I was younger and heard a rumble coming, it meant "Here comes a hot rod!" Dodge Ram has manufactured that sound, and now that's all I hear anymore. I've gotten to where I quit even looking to see if it's something different...
Friday evening drove my truck to the property to see what damage the storms did this time 716 miles round trip. All the way I got cars, pick-ups and tractor trailers flashing lights and hooking horns & waving all the way and never seen or heard anything like that when someone pasted the new super H/P autos. Driving back yesterday spent more time waving back to people than I have ever since buying her. People love seeing our trucks on the road driving at or near the same speed as they are. Evan, you are so correct when saying which vehicle will get the most enjoyment of the 2.
Finally ! Some one else gets it ~ I've been preaching " more FUN TO DRIVE " for fifty years now and still , they argue , build an unpleasant to drive rig then sell it . I wonder how anyone can enjoy that much power on Public roads ? . I *do* understand folks want more bang for their buck but this is crazy .
