    Hi All,

I am trying to install a glass bowl fuel pump on my 51. I have been told that it is important that the cam be in the lowest position when I mount the pump (as I understand the lever on the fuel pump contacts the cam). I can see the cam through the hole in the block, and when I turn the crankshaft pulley I can see it rotate, but I have no idea what the lowest position is.

Any help for this knucklehead newbie is greatly appreciated!

Ed, welcome aboard. If the fuel pump is like other cam-lobe driven pumps, having the cam's pump lobe on it's baseline circle means you won't have to tighten the pump "onto" the cam lobe.

Ok Thanks Mike. So, if I have the tall part of the lobe pointing up, then it sounds like the installation is easiest since the pump lever doesn't need to compress as I tighten the mounting bolts (is that correct?) Will I be able to tell if the lobe is pointing up by inserting a fingertip or screwdriver through the opening in the block as I turn the crank pulley? Thanks -
