Best employes?

For the last 4 or 5 years we have had a grasshopper plague so Ive been buying super deadly spray from the crop duster near by. Cost a 100 bucks a gallon and would just make one season or 4 sprayings. The bugs would be in and on everything including anything painted outside the spray booth and any bucket or pan had dead ones floating. This year I hired a crew that works from before daylight till after dark 7/7 and all I pay them amounts to just chicken feed. If I go across the highway the hoppers form clouds as you walk along but on this side not a bug of any type stirs. Grasshopper poop is about the size of a pin head, is black, and sticks like h*ll to new paint jobs so I should give them a raise I guess. They roam free all day but always go in their house at night.

Looks like Rhode Island Reds or New Hampshire Reds neither way they should not need a lot of feed unless they aren't laying. I have both and they do a great ob with (misqitos) no spell check.

Are they laying hens or what ? .

 

They are Rhode Island Reds and were supposed to be six hens, no crowing to disturb neighbors, but ended up with one rooster. They will start laying soon and since we don't eat eggs I guess the guys in the shop can have fresh ones for breakfast. A fellow we're doing a 57 3100 for just retired as a main frame computer builder (Chinese to me) and he is constantly looking for something to do. He built the pen, the coop, water and feed systems, and brought over the chicks his hens hatched. He has all sorts of projects at his place but still comes over at least three times a week to do the really dirty hard jobs on his truck. The final price will be a tribute to all his effort.

I love it Evan! We had a couple of chickens that free ranged. Fox got them right here in the middle of town. :/

 

They all have names now. Rooster always crowing about how great he is so he's named Donald, #1 hen is Hillary, and after a customer said free range hens a delicious we named them the Four McNuggets.

 

We had a rooster that had one of his wings hacked off by a hawk & a great horned owl tore his tail off but he still strutted around the yard like a stud. We named him Lucky Larry.

 

I don't suppose you'd have a photo of said superlucky chicken ? .

He's as "corroded" away as some of the projects we start on. Our rooster got mauled by two dogs a month ago but just lost his tail and butt feathers---a mere scratch compared to yours.
