    Hi All,

I just received a new drag link with the springs and cups etc. It is the original style for my '51 3/4 ton.

My question is when I attach it to the pitman arm and steering arm balls, how do I know how much to tighten down on the threaded end plugs? I am thinking that it should be tighten them all the way down onto the balls and then back them off a bit (maybe 1/2 a turn or so) before putting in the all-important cotter pins. Just not sure if that is correct. Thought I better check with the experts!

    Any help appreciated!

'51 GMC Maintenance Manual (same drag link) says to tighten snugly, then back off between 1/2 and one turn until cotter pin hole and the slot align. It also cautions against swapping hardware from one end to the other.

Great, thanks Bill. I was thinking it would be something of the sort. Just wanted confirmation -
