just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. Friday I bought this 1 ton Panel, and now I am going to be very busy getting it into shape, may need to ask where I can find parts, so please help if possible
Welcome ! Ironman ; It looks like a fun truck , will it be a Hot Rod or stock(ish) ? . Changing your details so folks know what state you're in at a glance , will get you many more replies when it comes to parts .
I Am Ironman... Welcome Ironman. Nate read my mind, wondering where you're from and what your plans are for the panel. Are you aware of just how rare a truck you have there?
well yes in a way I know it is rare, not many 1 ton panels around, answer to all of your questions, I am going to try to bring it back to stock, I still think I may leave the paint the way it is, just repair what I need to repair. only problem is it has been upgraded with a 350 with 283 heads, so it will only be stock all but the engine, I have not tried to start it yet, but I did turn the motor over by hand and it was a good feeling to know that it is not locked up. so I will keep every one here up to date as how I am doing with it. oh to add I am in NEW MEXICO, so not too far from Colorado, I was raised and lived in Colorado all my life until 2000 when we came down here.
One Ton Panels It wasn't so rare when it was new...... . Sadly it's a just another tool so they got rid hard and put away wet , not very many left these days . As much as I prefer InLine 6 Bangers , that v-8 is prolly still close to ready to go , take some time & care in re awakening it and see how it runs once properly tuned up and HEI added (important & cheap!) , then as you like you can easily swap heads to get bigger valves and replace the (maybe) flat cam shaft with a standard 3/4 Ton one , enjoy the sparkling performance GM built into every truck it made back then . See ? it's easy and you don't even have to yank out the engine most of the time . How's the weather there ? we're having great weather right now, soon the heat will come .
Weather Repor I was thinking about this (Weather) as I was driving to SWMBO's house in South Central Los Angeles last night ~ I was waiting the red light @ Imperial Highway and Normandie when a guy pulls up in a white Mustang Convertible , top down , in shirt sleeves...... . I immediately thought of my old School chums in Boston , we talk all tjhe time , they have the first floor windows buried in snow right now , many haven't been able to get to work in days.... MORE snow is coming to - day . Knowledge and experience of working on rusty dripping wet vehicles in freezing garages is why I moved Way Out West .
pulled door handle off to take it to locksmith, will get keys made, new battery, checked wiring, battery cables, and connectors, all looked good, hopefully will get it started this week, then tires and wheels, so first want to see if it will run, and what I have to do to make it run, will keep all up to date as to what goes on.
well after lots of problems, I found out the person who had this 64 was not the owner, so it set at home cause I could not get license, finally got hold of the owner, and she had the title, so now I can get to work, so I have taken all the crap out of the back and now, starting to clean everything up, so I can see what needs to be done, so does any one know what doors will fit on this? will look here to see if I can find local, problem is now the money will start to fall.
well started to do some work on her, took front grill off, it has some minor dings, that need to be fixed, all the rivits that held the head light brackets on were rusted, so took off, will install new ones, most of the work on her is on body panels, and not a lot of patch panels to repair, so I will be fabing them, still all in all, love this big hunk of metal.
