The truck i have has a 1955 chevy 235 engine with short shaft water pump and pulley , modern 12 volt dynamo bought from Classic parts.

The engine needs a new fan belt . Any recommendation for a good quality belt ? Maybe a belt which is kevlar reinforced ? I need a part number and where to buy ?

The external AC canister in the engine compartment have an WIX oil filter installed with the number 51100 , the size of the filter is 5" H x 9/16 " ID x 4 " OD ( Hight x inner Dia center hole x Outer dia filter ) . It fits fine but i find the OD a bit to small as there still is enough space for a wider filter arrangement ?

My question is will a WIX oil filter in a size 5" H x 9/16 " ID x 4.5 OD fit the canister better and clean the oil in a better way ?

    Thank you Martinius.

    Martinius,
Is your 235 from a car or a truck? The cars had a narrower belt. The premium belts are a Gates or a Dayco and each has a heavy duty option (or used to). The WIX 51100 is the best bypass flow filter but you could put a full flow filter kit on and filter ALL the oil. A search will show who offers these kits. The US military trucks with 235 engines all used this system. Pic of a 235 with the full flow filter.
Are you still cutting and selling wood and do you use the truck in your business?

Coilover are you doing fine ?

Thanks for your reply and information. Its very nice participating here at the chevy forum again and yes i am still in the firewood
business . I have been using the old chevy truck for delivery , 60 and 80 liter sacks of mostly birch wood to customers in our region and people love it when the old truck appears around in the village thats for shore. The last years i have not been using the truck very much as our customers buy there wood directly from the farm yard. The chevy has therefore been standing in the garage way to long but my son has becoming very interested in driving here around and that is good.
To inform you about the 235 Blueflame engine it comes out of a 1955 Bellair 210 car :). I am aware of that full flow oil system are available for chevy trucks , but in some ways i like the look and function of that old fashion AC oil canister , don't know why really ?

P.s. We bought a newer cutting/splitting machine this year. Its a Palax wood cutter /splitting machine made in Finland doing everything all together and it processes the wood very well.

    Thanks again Martinius.

Glad to hear the old truck could still work if needed. I forgot to ask if the water pump, crankshaft, and generator pulleys are all in perfect alignment. I'm sure they are. A good quality belt should last 5 years or so but if on pulleys with any misalignment belt will wear quickly. Have your son do a search on You Tube for the Joe Diffie song "Pickup Man" and he will see just what a great gift he's getting. Great to hear all is going well.
