I'm rebuilding a 75 model with parts from numerous years....the doors are from a 80's truck, but i'm not sure which year.I had to replace a vent window, and the one from the original door was the wrong shape...the front of vent window on the newer door was more pointed shaped....how do I tell for sure if it's an 80 or an 81 door...want to order new door panels....but they are different (nope, the panels naturally were NOT on these when I got them....) Help!!
early door windows and later are different, the strip between the 2 glasses is wider on the later. cant mix parts between the 2. door shells are the same. if the strip is wide, probably the 80s narrow is the early ones 73-?
They changed from one wing-window style to the other in 81. The wing gasket is either a one-piece or a two piece design, you'll have to look to find out. I'm not certain, but I think all of the door panels will fit in any door.
73-80 different 81-87 73 to 80 window goes to the tip of the outer trim of the vent window. 81 to 87 window goes less then the 73-80 because the rubber seal is wider at the top so the glass is shorter.
Doors The 73-80 doors had a seperate division bar channel. On the 81-87 doors the division bar channel was built into the door glass channel which made it all one piece. You will still need to take apart the vent window to see if your vent window weather stripping is a one piece or two. The two piece has little tads that stick through the divison bar and fold over to hold it in place. The one piece weather stripping will be riveted to the division bar. Hope this helps!
But they will both work from 73 to 87 you will know the ones that really know the vent windows other then that most will never know. they still make the 81-87 vent window aftermarket but not the early years any more.
