I bought my '49 GMC as a disassembled project, and these two sheet metal parts came with it. I looked at the illustrated parts catalog from several suppliers and don't see what this part is or where it goes (assuming it wasn't a part for some other truck) Can anyone tell me if this is for my truck or what it is?
Specific to GMC's only. Those are the engine shields that mount on either side of the frame rails below the engine compartment. GMC group # 10.1120 GMC part # 2076927 {RH} , # 2076928 {LH}. Although used only on GMC's.... I installed a pair of these on my Chevy because they are longer than their Chevy counterpart & they offer more protection . The large round holes on the ends are there to provide clearance for 2 existing rivets on the frame rails { so they will mount flush & flat to the frame rail }. . .
