    Hello to everyone...

I have 1954 Chevy 3600 3/4 ton truck. I need ring & pinion kit for my differential. It is factory parts. My factory engine changed. It is 265 cu inch V8 engine now. Transmission is manuel column 3 speed but I will do automatic on column. Truck is very slow. I want to buy new ring & pinion kit.I want to destroy the sound on differential.

What is my truck factory ratio?

What is your suggestion ring & pinion for 265 cu v8 engine?

    Thanks.Serkan

Your truck would have left the factory with 4.57:1 (maybe even 5.12:1) ratio rear gears.

The easy way to solve your problem is to change out the complete center section of your rear axle as one piece.
GM maintained the same physical internal size of the center section, also referred to as the "center section" or "pumpkin", into the 1970s while using a variety of ratios that may be more to your liking. Your best bet would be to find a pumpkin from an early 70's 3/4 ton van or pickup equipped with a large V8 engine and automatic transmission. I know 3.73:1 was available and there may even be numerically lower ratios to be had.

Buy the complete center section and swap it out as 1 piece.

Bill is right. setting up a ring and pinion requires some expertise. Highway use, cruising on the street?

    cruising I would suggest a 3:23 to a 3:73
Highway to street 2:73 to 3:43
