I finally give up. In this case "Search" has not been my friend. I have aquired a complete inline 6 cylinder motor and transmission including the fan all the way to the output of the 3 speed transmission. My question is what size is the motor? The casting number is 473483 and below the GM letters is 85. It has the two piece intake / exhaust with a one barrel carb. Originally the motor was painted orange but has been repainted blue. Other numbers cast into the block include D199, CON2. I believe it to be a 250 but was wanted to make sure. Any information is better than nothing.

This will go into my 64 SWB SS to replace the 350 tht is in it right now.

Since the truck came with a six and the three on the tree that what I want to go back to. When it is complete, Red paint and all, Its only real use will be to haul "Santa's Stuff" since I play Santa for special needs kids. It will never be a daily driver as my need for speed will come from elswhere.

Yes, the 473483 is a 1975-1976 250 ci block code.

I have a GM engine block and cylinder head casting table...the file is ginormous (45 pages), so it's not really attachable here. If you want to send me a private message with your email, I can send it to you as a file attachment. The dates on the block for Chevrolet are 1975-1979...I mis-read the dates the first time.

I hate to bump such an old thread but I would really love to have that file as well. I noticed Vin63 hasn't been chatty for about 5 years but does anyone else have said file? I was looking for the same vin as well as some other ones and it appears that vin doesn't show up on many lists. Thanks again!

I know.. it's an old thread, but a 250 in a truck... sounds anemic.

My 1st ride was a 1970 Nova with 250 and 3 on the tree... and it was anemic.
