hello I have a 1954 Chevy truck 3100 series straight 6 can many one help me ID what engine I have before I start rebuilding this what I found Block # 3769716 GM15 CON 3B80 Engine serial #?F0209b Head casting # 383648 Thanks
WELCOME! 3769716 Block is 58-62 235, which means you have the late style block with full oil pressure. 3836848 is the head that "belongs" with that block, and is the more desirable of the 235 heads. Don't jump into rebuilding until you know what you've got. What's the status? And yes, we want pictures.
So that means I would need parts for year 58-62 235 I’m new to all this first project car and I have never worked on cars other than basic oil change all this info is really helpful thanks
Unless you are going for 100% original (concourse restoration), this is actually great news. The motors look almost identical, but the newer six is much better in terms of both power and reliability. And yes, be sure to ask for the later parts. Most things are still relatively easy to find at your FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store), or through rockauto.com, or our host. Lots of great folks here - always happy to help as you run into questions. Did I mention we love pictures? Would love to see your new project.
I just bought the truck it started up and when came to a stop it turns off my oil was super black decided to change and drop the pan to see what would I find
I have a question if I put the gaskets I bought on my 54 but engine block is from 58-62 year will it leak oil # feo pro OS5041c

Truck looks good you have the right mind set just tweek a few things and drive it unlike myself been a part completely a couple of times they blow apart quick and go back together very slow and gets extremely expensive quick
