i have my old 79 with a 350 and a 3 speed auto trans(my father in law says it is a "super 400", he should know since he had them rebuilt right before i bought it from him)i am not the most automobile literate person, but i am mechanically minded enough to do most of my own work as long as i get a little instruction. anyway i look forward to building this thing up some. any suggestions would be appreciated, i like throttle response and speed.
well, this is somewhat of an old post, but no one responded on it so I am. The 3 speed, is that the 700r4 3 speed, if so, stall convertor and shift kit. As for the motor, basics are carberator and exhaust, but you can't forget about headers, fuel pumps, high rise intakes, etc. gotta have some suspension upgrades to handle the power. a 3"/5" drop should do the trick if you're going for speed. You might wanted to check the type of rearend you have. I think you should be good with it. Now if it was a 4x4, go up to the sky and let the mud fly. J.W.
