I have a 6kw and a 7.5kw generator. Can I combine them in some way to have 13.5kw available? Neither can handle shop demand during outage.

    No.

That said, can you split the shop's load? For example, are there two circuit breaker boxes for the shop?

I figured as much but what threw me is that solar/wind power home units can put excess back into the line making the meter run backward.

Big time electronics in the solar and wind power units to synchronize their output to the power grid.
