I just got my first truck. It is a GMC '79. The T-case has positions for LO LOC, LO, N, HI, HI LOC. What T-case do I have? I believe its chain driven. The tranny I believe the guy said it a turbo 300 (or something). It it an auto. What can you tell me about this tranny. How many gears, gear ratios, how good is it, etc? How do you tell if your truck is a 1/2, 3/4, or 1/4 ton truck? Thank you for all help.
The transmission is probably a th350, which has 3 gears and reverse. Its a fairly good transmission if you need some power, but want to keep some fuel economy. The transfer case I think would be a np203. If your truck still has its badges on the fenders, then if it has a 10 = 1/2 ton, 20 = 3/4ton, 30 = 1 ton, or you can identify it by the VIN. Hope this Helps, Craig
the turbo 350 is a three speed transmission with a final ratio of 1 to 1 and there is not a 1/4 ton truck
