Need help in removing and replacing door handles on 86 Chevy. Can't figure out how to disconnect the rod between the button mechanism and the latch mechanism. Door has electric locks. Also, as my son, in the process of "restoring" the truck, has lost many of the bolts for various body parts. Looking for a good source of bolts, nuts, screws, washers, etc. for the truck. Although many are off the shelf (hardware store variety), many are specialties. HELP. Thanks,
RE: Door Handle Removal and Replace [updated:LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-04 AT 12:09 PM (CST)]Its easyer than it looks. 1st get a drop light in there (your window will have to go all the way up) 2nd, you have to take off the inner door handle conecting rod to get the "latch rod" There is a little white or yellow clip that has a "C" clamp on it as well a grommet that holds onto the rod, and the grommet connects to the door latch. you HAVE to push this "C" clamp off of the connecting rod. This can be easly done w/your finger, then slide the rod back towards you or i guess towards the truck. & thats it. The clip will stay in place, because there is a grommet connects to the door latch. Dont worry the drop light will show all! Good luck OOPS about the nuts & bolts...........AHHHHH your local salvage yard is a gold mine for nuts & bolts. sometimes they will let you go out and pull them off yourself :7
