Well, we had the 350 put in, and although I tried to let it not bug me, it still does. You see, here's the problem: Speedometers read in MPH and KPH, and of course, we all use MPH. Well, let's say that the speed limit is 40, and I'm going 40. The speedometer reads I'm going 25, BUT it shows I'm going 40 in KPH. The KPH is actually the MPH, just screwed up a bunch. The guys at GM really messed this up and I am finally sick of it. Has anyone had this problem or know a way to fix it? Thanks, Stephen Hardy
The 350 shouldn't affect your speedometer. The speedo cable comes off the back of the transmission or transfer case if 4wd. If you've changed the rearend gears or changed tire size then the speedo will have this problem. I think there are speedometer recalibration kits you can install, or you can ask a transmission shop about changing the speedo gear on the tranny/transfer case.
Well, the only thing I've changed is the tire size. It was from a 255 to a 235 in the front, still the 255's in the back...but that shouldn't affect it that much. And it wouldn't come out to be exactly the KPH in Miles per hour...I'll call a tranny shop and ask them, thanks for the advice!
Did whoever put the engine in, pull the tranny or the speedo cable? Some GM trucks came with gear reducers attached between the speedometer cable and the transmission. It was to calibrate the transmission gear to the speedo head. Vince
